As the Arctic comes under increasing scrutiny, Canada must take concrete steps to ensure its security while asserting its sovereignty. Most options have focused on constructing additional ships and establishing bases. These are important steps but can take considerable time. An initial capability is needed in the meantime. The NCoEI Maritime Security has put forward a draft discussion paper that explores the option of deploying a drone-based capability in the near term on its resource page.
